Greg Owens and Harmonic Soul Band capture pure energy on "Harmonic Soul: Live From Rehearsal"

Creating a musical rebirth, Greg Owens of Columbus, Ohio, makes it known that he’s back with “Harmonic Soul: Live From Rehearsal,” a colourful, live album. Recorded during a rehearsal in advance of the band’s Juneteenth concert at Mayme Moore Park earlier this summer, the project is a funk-driven, off-the-cuff document of a group rediscovering its on-the-fly chemistry. The energy is raw, the musicianship magnetic, and the takeaway message that of resilience through rhythm loud and clear.

Owens reformed the Harmonic Soul Band from scratch after its near-breakup in late 2023. A lifelong renaissance man and drummer for Columbus neo-funk heroes Mojoflo, Owens brings that same spirit of renewal to this new project. The eight-song album brings together funk, soul, hip-hop and improvisation to create a singular work that revels in community and creativity.

Highlights like “Everlasting Summer” and “Vacation” shimmer with easygoing groove and warmth, reflecting the give-and-take of the live band and Owens’ fearless approach to genre-blending. Every track feels organic, beating with the collective heart of players in deep communication. This set is a statement about perseverance, connection, and the eternal strength of live instrumentation in an age of digital shortcuts.

Harmonic Soul: Live From Rehearsal” is a rejuvenation for Greg Owens, a Grammy-nominated artist, producer and composer. The project seizes a moment in motion, where rehearsal becomes revelation and soul regains its groove.
