Odelet’s fourth album, “Raindance,” is a testament to the artist’s genre-defying vision. With over 10 immersive tracks and 30 minutes of runtime, the release connects the past and the future, analog warmth and digital ease. Mixed entirely by the legendary Larry Crane, the album is an intimate look at Odelet’s unique world, crafted with each note placed purposefully.
Born in Detroit and currently crafting soundscapes in California, Odelet returns with a project that defies categorization. While playing almost every instrument on the album himself, the artist guides us through folk, electronic, and soul influences, creating an album that feels like a walking, talking storybook. The partnership with Crane certainly elevates each arrangement, his restrained but considered technique capturing the emotional rawness that seeps through the core of the album. Anyone who has seen the Everlasting Tape films or heard Tingle’s previous output should find the cinematic undertones of this project familiar.
Outstanding tracks include the trance-inducing “Raindance-Dub Remix,” in which age-old 1970s dub techniques are used to give new life to the title track, as echo and reverb are layered over the thud and heartbeat of the original rhythm, creating a trance-like pulsation. Equally impressive is the “Wake Up Call-Dub Remix,” a reimagining of the original’s pensive melody into a mellow, bass-propelled episode in which textures evolve. The remixes hint at the full album, "Raindance In Dub," which will transport the Macedonian dub artists into another universe filled with reverb and shades.
Odelet’s most recent project, “Raindance In Dub,” is both an end and a beginning. Allow yourself to immerse yourself in the analog embrace, immerse yourself in the gently whispered hush, and explore the rolling rhythm that transports you to a moment of perceived no-time and beyond, all while accelerating on the backbeat.
